Beskrivelse: -- Definition -- Hydrographic elements, including marine areas and all other water bodies and items related to them, including river basins and sub-basins. Where appropriate, according to the definitions set out in Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2000 establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy, and in the form of networks. NOTE: The theme "Hydrography" is a basic reference component and, therefore, of interest for many users and uses. For mapping purposes (to provide a map background for orientation and to understand place relationships), it includes the representation of all main hydrographic elements ? both natural and artificial. To fulfill reporting requirements of EC water-related directives it includes the river and channel network; surface water bodies within river basin districts are categorised as rivers, lakes, transitional waters or coastal waters, or as artificial surface water bodies or heavily modified surface water bodies. Furthermore, a topologically-sound river network is necessary for GIS-based spatial analysis and modeling. Geographically, the theme "Hydrography" covers all inland water and marine areas covered by river basin districts as defined by WFD.
